Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship (Plater)

Role Overview

We are seeking motivated and hard-working individuals to join our team as a Plating Apprentice. Successful applicants will gain the opportunity to join our outstanding team, to be trained in all aspects of fabrication including:

  • Adhering to all company health, safety and quality policies and procedures.
  • Developing an understanding of how to read and work from engineering drawings.
  • Marking out processes and procedures.
  • Working to precise tolerances.
  • Oxy fuel cutting.
  • Drilling.
  • Tack Welding.
  • Assembly and installation.
  • Performing additional related duties as requested or required.

You will be working for one of the largest fabrication projects in the UK for a prestigious customer.

Qualifications Required

  • 4 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (which must include Maths and English Language).

  • Diligent and committed.
  • Good communication skills.

Rates of Pay

Rate Structure is as follows (dependant on entry level, rates of pay are subject to general pay review as well as progression review):

  • Year 1 –           Fulltime college only £6.60
  • Year 2 –           £11.44
  • Year 3 –           £14.26
  • Year 4 –           £16.96

Hours of Work

Initially you will attend Hartlepool College, based on their learning hours.  Once on site at the company you will be working:

  • Monday – Friday
  • 0700 hrs – 1500 hrs

What Training will the Apprentice take and what Qualification will the Apprentice receive at the end?

The apprentice will attend Hartlepool College of Further education. Dependent upon entry level initially fulltime and thereafter day release.  Successful completion of this programme will lead to a Level 3 Apprenticeship under the Metal Fabricator Standard.

What is the expected Career Progression on completion of the Apprenticeship?

On successful completion of apprenticeship, the learner will have the opportunity for employment and career progression as a Plater. Current salary for a plater being £40,111 plus opportunity for overtime.

During the apprenticeship and if successful thereafter there is continuous development within you trade to meet the specific needs of our customer. For some there will be opportunity to progress on other career paths within the business.
