Our apprenticeship programmes combine structured education, hands-on experience, and real career opportunities that shape the industries we work in. Apprentices at Wilton don’t just learn about engineering—they become an active part of our project teams, contributing to exciting, large-scale developments for high-profile clients.

Whether you’re starting your career in fabrication and welding, or working towards a higher-level qualification such as a degree in design engineering, our apprenticeships offer a clear and supportive route into the engineering world.

Wilton offers two routes into our construction team delivered in partnership with Hartlepool College of Further Education.

  • Metal Fabricator Level 3
  • Plate Welder Level 3

Both are delivered over 42 programmes with the aim of developing practical and theoretical skills.

Programme Structure:

  • Phase 1: Full-time college-based training covering core fabrication skills both workshop and classroom based at HCFE. Day release will continue into Phase 2 & 3.
  • Phase 2: Transition to the Wilton Training Academy (approx. 6–8 months in), where apprentices complete a 20-week specialist programme tailored to Wilton’s advanced projects.
  • Phase 3: Gradual integration into live project work within our workshops, gaining experience in real production environments with continued support throughout.

Career Progression:
On completion, apprentices are well-positioned for full-time roles within their trade working on challenging complex fabrication projects. Opportunity will be given to develop your skills within you chosen trade and for those with the desire to do so opportunities for progression into supervisory roles, inspection, planning, engineering and surveying among others.

Our Design Degree Apprenticeship blends academic achievement with practical engineering experience. Delivered in partnership with Teesside University, this programme leads to a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering.

Programme Highlights:
